Tomahawk Chapter Deadline is Wednesday, Dec. 10th.
(NO EXCEPTIONS)
Order of the Arrow – a simple but powerful definition:
“Honor Campers” who give “cheerful service”.
An OA Member performs outside skills that ultimately support
his troop and intensifies the Boy Scout Program.
The OA needs:
Adult Support
at Round Table, programs, events, the LEC, and ceremony judges.
To get as many members as possible to events
Fall Pow Wow, Spring Fellowship, American Indian Weekend, David Hinds Training, the Annual Banquet, Section Conclave, and NOAC (National Order of the Arrow Conference)
Ceremony Teams
for AOL, Callout, Pre-Ordeal, Ordeal and Brotherhood
Competition Teams
for Dance, Singing, and Ceremonies
Scoutmasters
Questions you need to ask your candidates:
Why do you want to be in the OA?
Are you “worthy”?
Are you willing to attend OA events?
Are you willing to give cheerful service?
Do your parents understand the OA?
Are they willing to support you and the program?
Election Questions and Procedures
All troops should hold OA Elections and must follow Lodge Election Procedures to completion.
Are you ready for your election?
Do you have… Election Forms (download at colonneh.org – make 3 copies – one for your unit and two for the council)?
Do you have… Candidate List
(and all data including birthdays and email addresses)?
Do you have Ballots?
Do you have your election scheduled on your troop calendar?
If not, schedule it as soon as possible,
and contact Susan Fredericksen as soon as possible.
Do you have OA team members and advisors willing to go to troops to conduct elections?
Encourage as many team members as possible to get involved.
Busy schedules plague everyone.
Therefore, election duties need to be shared,
not left up to the same few Scouts and adults.
Adult Nominations
Need to be turned in with your troop election forms.
Also, note that:
just because an adult has filled the requirements it doesn’t mean they are “automatically”
inducted as Ordeal candidates.
The adult forms are reviewed by a youth committee and
then letters are sent to the eligible adults.
“Lost letters” have been a problem in the past.
This year I will stay make sure each eligible
adult receives his/her letter.
Contacts
Note: Election Forms should be returned to Susan the same night or within a week of the election so that data can be entered electronically and immediately sent to the OA Office. (Return to 3510 Arbor Place Sugar Land, TX 77479 or to the Stafford Boy Scout Shop on Murphy Road.)
One final note: as with most of the positions in BSA, the OA Office is staffed by unpaid volunteers.
If you have questions and cannot reach anyone at the OA Office,
please feel to call Susan Fredericksen 281-980-2470
or email Susan at dsfred@comcast.net
